Everything you need to know about IV Nutrition Therapy

Updated: Jul 6, 2021

When most people hear the word “IV,” you think of hospitals and sickness, but IV Nutrition Infusions have become an increasingly popular way to take a proactive way to your overall health and wellness – something that we’ll never take for granted again, thanks to COVID 19.

The concept of IV Nutrition or IV Vitamin Therapy is not new. In fact, it was first made popular in the 1970s by Dr. John Myers. This led to the development of the well-known Myers Cocktail made up of some of the most crucial vitamins and minerals.

IV Nutrition Infusions can treat a wide variety of symptoms from dehydration, nausea, headaches and vitamin deficiencies. They can also help give you more energy and boost your immune system, among other many benefits.

You might be asking yourself why would I want to be poked with a needle and hooked up to an IV versus simply taking your daily vitamins or whatever medicine you need to fix your ailment? It may seem like an odd concept at first but try it once and you’ll be hooked.

Some of the benefits include:

  • 100 percent absorption rate of the infusion versus oral vitamins or medicines which have a 20 to 30 percent absorption rate due to the work the body has to do to break them down and process them.

  • Goes directly into the bloodstream so you feel the effects almost immediately.

  • Less pills to swallow.

  • No stomach trouble.

  • Stays in the blood stream longer (from two to three weeks).

  • Vitamins can be taken in higher doses.

  • Plus, IV infusions can give you more than just vitamins – they can treat dehydration, nausea, pain and more.

How does it work?

If you’ve ever gotten an IV, it’s exactly the same process. A needle, attached to a thin tube, is inserted into one of your veins, typically on your hand or wrist. That tube is hooked up to an IV bag on a pole and the liquid is delivered directly into your vein and your blood stream.

How long does it take?

While everyone absorbs the liquid at a different rate, it takes between 30 minutes to an hour. During that time, you can sit back and watch TV, check your phone or we can dim the light, play some relaxing music and you can take a quick nap.
